With three picks in the books, the Steelers have one in the fourth, fifth and seventh rounds, and two in the sixth, before the 2013 NFL Draft concludes today in New York.
We've thrown around some analysis on the Steelers' first three picks, Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones, Michigan State RB Le'Veon Bell and Oregon State WR Markus Wheaton, and we'll continue to break down the picks as they come up.
The Steelers have to be looking safety at some point today, and a quarterback wouldn't hurt either. They may not feel the need to draft that right now, considering the need they have at other positions.
Also, I'd be willing to bet money the team will select Penn State LB Matt Mauti at some point today, as they look to groom their inside linebacking presence for the future.
Who else should we expect the Steelers to draft today? Give us your opinion, and stick around, we'll be here all day.
LIVE BLOG
12:10 p.m. - Right off the bat...a report surfaces the Steelers are looking to deal RB Jonathan Dwyer. The team wants more picks, and it wants cap room. Makes sense to deal the position at which you have five players already, including your second round pick.
12:56 p.m. - Steelers find the safety they were looking for, trading up with Cleveland and drafting Syracuse's Shamarko Thomas. Only issue is he's short (5-foot-8), which is probably why it took until this past season for him to notch his first interception.
1:08 p.m. - wow, this is crazy now. Landry Jones from Oklahoma is the first quarterback the Steelers have drafted lower than the fifth round since Ben Roethlisberger. This is a solid pick. Steelers doing an outstanding job addressing need.
1:11 p.m. - Whew....Very hard keeping up here. There's an interesting report coming up shortly in regards to this draft and a certain injured linebacker, stay tuned.
1:44 p.m. - And people wonder why I have a silent crush on the 49ers. Eric Reid, Tank Carradine, Lemonier, Quinton Patton...that's just a monster draft.
1:52 p.m. - Fourth round recap....second straight year trading up in the fourth. Last year's move isn't exactly paying dividends right now.
1:53 p.m. - Yeah, remember what I said about San Francisco...add Lattimore to the list. That's an outstanding football team now and for the next two years.
2:10 p.m. - Steelers haven't traded a future pick since 1974. Noll said it wouldn't ever happen again. Noll obviously never knew the abilities of Shamarko Thomas. Or something. At least it wasn't for that TE/FB the Ravens drafted. Seems like he has far too many Zs in his name to be taken seriously. No, I'm sober, really.
2:15 p.m. - A source told me the Steelers are big on Michael Mauti of Penn State. A good chance he's their guy here in the fifth round. Along with that, the team is being intentionally mum on Sean Spence's health because they don't want to give away their intention to take Mauti. Another source said Spence is doing well, and they are optimistic about him returning.
2:41 p.m. - Tomlin does the interview thing...speaking to NFL Network and ESPN. See what he had to say about the Steelers picks through four rounds.
3:02 p.m. - Steelers select Terry Hawthorne, a 6-foot-0, 195 pound cornerback from Illinois. Our friends at The Champagne Room, SB Nation's Illinois site, has glowing things to say about him...just as long as you ignore his senior season.
4:23 p.m. - Ok, slight break over. Pizza re-heated, dog walked, I even thought about taking a shower.
4:24 p.m. - Rebecca's latest on Drafting in the New World Order...and talking about my "knickers" for some reason, and allegations of creating arguments for, supposedly, the fun of doing it.
4:50 p.m. - MW and Brown. Bring in Emmanuel Sanders too. The Steelers took Sanders and Antonio Brown in the 3rd and 6th rounds in 2010. Now they took the second MW, Markus Wheaton, and another Brown, Justin, in the 3rd and 6th round.
5:14 p.m. - Justin Brown transferred from Penn State amid the scandal that rocked the university and the country. He's going to be asked questions about why he left. I'm curious what he's going to say.
5:51 p.m. - We'll have something up on Sean Spence essentially being placed on the IR again shortly.
6:18 p.m. - Steelers draft DT Nick Williams of Samford to end their picks in the 2013 Draft. Here is the Steelers Draft Class.
7:02 - Reactions to the Steelers Draft Class. Vote!
