Steelers Draft Visits: Heavy on linebackers early in the draft visiting period

There are reports of 13 different draft-eligible players having visited with the Steelers over the last week. The vast majority are linebackers, and with 17 picks left, the Steelers could be showing their intentions for this draft.

Rob Christy-US PRESSWIRE

With UCLA running back Jonathan Franklin and Nevada safety Duke Williams having recently visited the Steelers, Tribune-Review reporter Alan Robinson added TCU receiver Josh Boyce to that list, bringing it to 13 (unofficial count).

Franklin, UCLA's all-time single-season (1,734) and career (4,403) rushing leader, isn't a name mentioned often but shows a high level of production in his college days.

The run on linebackers may or may not be slowing down but the presence of visits by guys like Florida State's Vince Williams and Penn State's Michael Mauti brings wonder behind the long-term prognosis of LB Sean Spence.

Robinson wrote Spence's season is "in doubt." Perhaps that's a loosely interpreted phrase, and on a team that is always looking to bolster depth at linebacker, it may not mean much.
