Mike Tomlin talks with Bruce Rader

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin appeared on the FOX 43 (WAVY) Sports Wrap with Bruce Rader in Hampton Roads, Va., Thursday, in wake of Tomlin's participation in the Hampton Roads Youth Foundation's football game, scheduled for this weekend.

Rader, the host, seems like a much happier version of Elliot Gould, and definitely seemed excited to have Tomlin on the show - something they didn't announce as an annual thing, but Tomlin was in attendance last year as well.

They spoke about Steelers rookie safety Shamarko Thomas, a Virginia Beach product, and well-known in the Hampton Roads area.

"I always love the Hampton Roads guys," Tomlin said. "Shamarko is an easy guy to love. When you turn on the Syracuse tape over the last few years he plays with a passion and enthusiasm we place a value on, not only in Pittsburgh but in Hampton Roads."

Tomlin made a comment about loving to play in the "rough and tumble AFC North," pointing out the strength and depth that's expected to come out of the division this season.

"We live by the motto 'iron sharpens iron,' we believe playing in our division helps and prepares us for that."
