Newport News, Va., isn't shy about bringing back one of its favorite sons - Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
He's participated in several events to help raise money in the area in the past, and he will be a featured guest at the Hampton Roads Youth Foundation's 5th Annual Gridiron Legends Tailgate Event Thursday.
Tomlin will be joined by NFL players from the area, including Cowboys defensive back B.W. Webb, Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, Redskins LB Darryl Tapp and Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter.
Tomlin was elected into William & Mary's Hall of Fame last year, along with appearing at the same tailgate event for the HRYF.
A Newport News native, Tomlin graduated from William & Mary in 1994 after a successful career as a player and student. He began coaching in 1995, with stops at VMI, Memphis, Arkansas State and Cincinnati before being hired as the secondary coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2001. He was hired as the Steelers' 16th head coach - and the third since 1969 - and has compiled a regular season record of 63-33 with two AFC championships and one Super Bowl championship.
