Former Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend kept a 13-year NFL career going due to a legendary training regimen.
He may not be in the NFL anymore, but he's got the same energy required of someone able to remain in peak physical condition for that long. He's just not in the NFL anymore.
When the Cardinals' staff was released at the end of the 2012 season, they scattered in several different directions. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt is now the offensive coordinator in San Diego. Defensive coordinator Ray Horton now has the same position with the Cleveland Browns.
Townsend went back to school.
He was named the secondary coach at Mississippi State University this January, and he's already becoming a big hit, according to Hail State Beat, Mississippi State's official athletics blog. "Just seeing from the start of the spring to now, the confidence, and he's got a ton of swag, he's got a lot of juice, a lot of energy, and I think we're starting to see that on the practice field," MSU defensive coordinator Geoff Collins told HailStateBeat.
"He's a complete coach."
Townsend had a solid, if not spectacular career, and was involved in the mentoring of Ike Taylor, the best Steelers cornerback of the last decade.
It would seem the young corners at Mississippi State are in luck.
