Steelers Roster: TE Michael Palmer claimed off waivers

With three of their top tight ends out of action nursing injuries, the Steelers have added another healthy camp body to the positional ranks; but at the expense of another TE prospect.

USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have seen all they need to out of TE John Rabe, who joined the team earlier this week. He was waived today to make room for another tight end they claimed off of waivers from the Seattle Seahawks - Michael Palmer.

Palmer appeared in 43 regular season games with the Atlanta Falcons, where he caught 21 passes for 123 yards and 3 TDs. He has decent size, standing 6-5, at around 250 pounds. His experience will give him an advantage as he attempts to catch up to the rest of the team in terms of the playbook and the organization.

Rabe struggled in Steelers training camp practices, often beaten by the sled and opposing teammates. Palmer should be an upgrade over Rabe. Palmer will be competing against Jaime McCoy, David Paulson, Peter Tuitupou and the recently acquired Nathan Overbay to fill out the tight end section of the depth chart.
