Steelers fullback Will Johnson may miss season opener vs Titans

Will Johnson's nagging hamstring isn't considered a serious injury, but it continues to limit him in practice a week after suffering the injury and may keep him out of the Steelers' first game.

Will Johnson expected to see an increased workload in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense in his second season.  Unfortunately, he also thinks his hamstring injury is going to force him to miss the team's season opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Head coach Mike Tomlin demands a certain level of participation by his players through a typical week of practice in order for them to be allowed to take field in the game.  Le'Veon Bell was held out of the preseason opener after a bruised knee limited his practice time in the week before.

Fortunately for the Steelers, David Johnson was able to get healthy in time to make the final roster.  D. Johnson played TE and FB during his first stint with Pittsburgh before an ACL injury forced him to injured reserve last season, opening the door for W. Johnson.  D. Johnson's experience with the offensive personnel and team expectations will allow him to spell W. Johnson adequately as his hamstring heals.

Will Johnson has not been officially ruled out, but when the player isn't confident about his availability, there is a good chance the team isn't either.
