Mike Tomlin met with reporters and media today at his weekly press conference and announced that veteran long snapper, Greg Warren, damaged his meniscus in his knee and will miss approximately four weeks before he is able to return to the playing field.
Although the injury will require a medical procedure, it is certainly the best of the possible injuries in terms of damage done to the knee joint.
While Warren is injured and off the field, Bryce Davis will be taking over the long snapping duties. When asked if the team would bring in another long snapper for the time of Warren's injury, Tomlin seemed at ease with Davis holding down the position for the time being.
Steelers fans are all too familiar with the importance of the long snapper. In a game against the New York Giants in 2008, Warren was lost for the game due to injury and outside linebacker James Harrison filled in. His first snap sailed over the punter's head and out of the end zone for a safety.
Tomlin emphasized that a position like long snapper is extremely important to the team and only gets recognition when something bad goes wrong.
Here is hoping Davis can hold down the fort until Warren returns from his knee injury.
