Ex-Dolphins safety Chris Clemons signs with Texans

He was initially linked as an option for the Steelers, but that became moot when Pittsburgh signed FS Mike Mitchell to a five-year deal.

Houston has come to terms with free agent safety Chris Clemons on a two-year contract, Tania Ganguli reported Friday. Clemons was linked to the Steelers when free agency initially began, and is the last player who allegedly drew the Steelers' interest publicly to sign elsewhere.

This merely closes the loop on something that was obvious the second the Steelers signed free safety Mike Mitchell, but that, along with the fact another roster move would need to be made for the Steelers to have the cap space necessary to sign another player, signifies the likely end of what could be the most active free agency period in team history.

The Steelers signed five free agents as well as gave new contracts to four of their own pending free agents. They gave extensions to Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller and signed Jason Worilds to a transition tag.
