My gut reaction is Steelers punter Adam Podlesh was brought in to compete with Brad Wing for the team's punting job. My gut, at that point, takes on a very familiar feeling of resignation as this team obviously is not any closer to having what most folks would call a "decent" punter.
Maybe I'm wrong though.
Mesko/McBriar had 16 punts downed inside 20 last season. Podlesh had 27 with only two touchbacks. #Steelers

That's the kind of stat you want to see, as opposed to his 37.9 net average in 2013 with Chicago.
Punter Adam Podlesh, just signed by #Steelers, ranked last in the NFL last season with a 40.6 average.

That seems about right. We all felt better not having the worst punting unit in the NFL in 2013, thanks to Podlesh and the Bears. So obviously the right move is to cut Zoltan Mesko, not re-sign Mat McBriar and hire the only punter in the league who failed to out-perform either of them.
The #Steelers are now 6 ¢ under the salary cap with the signing of P Adam Podlesh.

And the last two, Podlesh and wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, were two of the worst performers at their respective positions in 2013. Not to be negative, if nothing else, they're both still relatively young and have the potential to at least perform at a replacement level - assuming they make the team.
Podlesh Wing Battle sounds like something from Star Wars. #steelers

This will give us something to talk about in the upcoming epic Wing vs. Podlesh Battle To Determine Global Superiority - Latrobe, 2014. T-shirts are being made now.
"@ESPNChiBears: Steelers sign former Bears punter Podlesh http://t.co/vmTMvhfLaJ" hope ya enjoy his 8 yards a punt steelers...
