Steelers Two-Minute Drill: Defense coming of age for playoff-bound Steelers

New, comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been riding the coattails of their offense all season, but it's the defense which is starting to become a force to be reckoned with.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

When fans think of the 2014 Pittsburgh Steelers, they typically think offense. After all, when you have Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell and a budding star in Martavis Bryant, why wouldn't you think of the offense?

The Steelers' defense has been a middle-of-the-road unit the entire season, but as Neal Coolong outlines in the audio above, it is the team's defense which is starting to catch fire at the right time.

After defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16, Pittsburgh clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2012 and did so to the tune of six sacks of Chiefs' QB Alex Smith. Although the offense has been dynamic, Coolong tells the tale of a defense which could be an unexpected force as this team prepares for the Cincinnati Bengals and a fight for the AFC North divisional crown and a higher seed in the NFL Playoffs.
