The Steelers figured they had a steal when Texas wide receiver Limas Sweed fell to them in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
Like many of their second round picks, Sweed didn't exactly pan out.
Interestingly, though, many of the others around him failed to make the grade, so to speak. Devin Thomas (34th overall), Malcolm Kelly (51st overall) and Desean Jackson (49th overall) are first, second and third on Kiper's list. Donnie Avery, who was the first receiver taken in a draft that didn't have a receiver taken in the first round, went 33rd overall, and was 11th on Kiper's list.
In a group of spectacular mediocrity, Sweed's basically non-existent stats fit in well with the general theme. But he did hit on a few receivers who did very well to alright - Jordy Nelson (7th), Harry Douglas (11th) and Eddie Royal (15th) stand out.
As usual, it goes to show no analyst is ever going to be right - and few would argue the Steelers made a great selection in the second round that year.
