Joe Zeff, a native Pittsburgher and design guru, came up with this patch as a suggestion of something the Steelers could use to honor the late coach Chuck Noll this season.
Understated, connected, I didn't like it at first, but the more I look at it, the more I think it blends into the overall design of the uniform. It makes it quieter, in fact, which to me is symbolic of Coach Noll's legacy.
Whether the Steelers actually intend to create a patch or some kind of design to wear on their jerseys or helmets this season is up to them, obviously. Something like this, though, a nice, neat design created by the fans - who should share a part of Noll's legacy, just as the team does - would be a nice touch for the season.
If you have any design ideas of your own, Behind the Steel Curtain would love to see them. Contact managing editor Neal Coolong via his email address, which is in his profile.
