Steelers retire Mean Joe Greene's No. 75 jersey

Joe Greene is only the second Steeler to have the honor of a retired jersey number, joining #70 Ernie Stautner

Joe Greene is getting an honor very few in Pittsburgh Steelers history ever will: a jersey number all to himself.

The Steelers announced today that they will retire Joe Greene's number 75 at the November 2, 2104 game against the Ravens in Pittsburgh.  Greene requested this game for the ceremony.  The man affectionately known as Mean Joe is only the second Steeler honored with a retired jersey number, joining Ernie Statner and his number 70.

Greene served as a coach and player personnel man with Pittsburgh after his retirement from football, retiring from his official duties with the team in 2013.

Nothing more needs to be said about Joe Greene and his impact on the Steelers as a franchise and Pittsburgh as a city.  He deserves this honor and I think it is particularly telling he has chosen a smash-mouth rivalry for the honor.  Hopefully this new generation of Steel Curtain players can make his night even more special with a win.
