There is not another Troy Polamalu. No one can expect anyone to be held to such a standard, it wouldn't be fair. However, the Steelers need to address the safety situation in this year's draft and there is no one better than Alabama's Landon Collins.
Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com released his most recent mock draft, and has the Steelers taking Collins with the 22nd overall pick in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft. See what Prisco has to say about the projection:
22. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Alabama S Landon Collins: He's a safety in the same Troy Polamalu mold. He can play near the line of scrimmage to cause all kinds of problems for a defense. I worry about him in space, but Polamalu wasn't great there either.
The Steelers brought Collins in for a pre-draft visit, and would have to consider taking the safety in the first round of the upcoming draft to help secure a position which is left with Mike Mitchell, Shamarko Thomas and Will Allen as the only safeties with NFL experience on the roster.
Collins' trademark while at Alabama was his ability to make plays in the back end, but more importantly to play the run and be a superior tackler. The Steelers secondary could use a player who has the ability to play the line of scrimmage the way Polamalu did and force opposing quarterbacks to always keep track of where he is on the football field. Both of which Collins could show the ability to do at the NFL level, possibly as a rookie.
Should the Steelers take Collins in the first round of the draft? It certainly is a valid option if he is still on the board when the team selects at No. 22. Take a look at this highlight film below and tell me this guy wouldn't look great in black and gold.
