The Pittsburgh Steelers finish their extended 5-game preseason schedule Thursday night when the Carolina Panthers come to the Steel City. The super stars in this game won't be playing in this contest. No Ben Roethlisberger or Cam Newton, no Le'Veon Bell or Jonathan Stewart. These players are being protected for the regular season, which for the Steelers is one week from Thursday when they play the New England Patriots.
The Steelers are 1-3 throughout this preseason, and have given fans several reasons for hope, and plenty of reasons for worry. There won't be any easing of concerns Thursday night as the only players who will see the field will be those who are trying to keep their NFL dreams alive by making the team's 53-man roster.
The Steelers, and the rest of the NFL, have already trimmed their roster from 90 to 75, and have until September 5th to have their roster cut down to 53 players. There are only a few roster spots left, and those are worth watching in the game tonight.
