Entering Week 2 of the 2015 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers are on completely different ends of the spectrum in terms of their win/loss totals. The Steelers suffered a loss to the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in Week 1, and the 49ers defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
With the 49ers working on a short week, along with traveling across country for a 1 p.m. EST game at Heinz Field, the fine folks who pick the spread for the week's slate of games certainly are favoring the Steelers in this game.
The opening line of this game had the Steelers giving 6.5 points to the 49ers, but as the week has continued the line has come down. The majority of books have lowered the line to the Steelers being 5.5 point favorites, while the Bovada sports book has lowered their line by simply removing the hook, or the half point, from the opening line making the Steelers 6.0 point favorites to win.
This game is very unique, and difficult to predict, as the 49ers have so many new faces on the defensive side of the football. On the other side of the field, fans are wondering how the Steelers porous defense will control Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers offense.
The game could be much closer than many are predicting, which makes the line on this game even more intriguing for a variety of reasons. Nonetheless, no matter how you slice it, Vegas sees the Steelers as favorites in the inter-conference grudge match.
