Steelers sign a kicker!
Kicker Shaun Suisham suffered a season-ending injury during Sunday's game. The Steelers didn't waste any time replacing him, evaluating several kickers and ultimately selecting Garrett Hartley who is best known as the Saints kicker from 2008-2013. Hartley has an impressive resume, and should be an adequate replacement for Suisham. Hopefully he can get used to kicking outdoors and in the cold weather. Devin Gardner was waived to make room for the newest member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Players out with injuries
Shaun Suisham and Cameron Stingily are both having knee surgery on Tuesday.
Robert Golden is still out with a knee injury, Dan McCullers with a hamstring injury, and Ross Ventrone who hurt his lower-leg earlier in camp. Jordan Zumwalt has a groin injury, and, also per Tomlin, something is wrong with Vince Williams.
Harrison not in sweats; other players back on the field
Yep, James Harrison was in pads today, about which Tomlin said, "I know when you get 92 back in uniform that changes the climate a little bit. I think it did today." Harrison seemed relieved to be back on the field, saying, "I feel all right. It's day one. I've got four preseason games to get back in the swing before the regular season starts. It's just day one. I did what was expected for day one."
DeAngelo Williams, Martavis Bryant, and Markus Wheaton were healthy enough to participate in some of practice today. Heath Miller was out there too along with Josh Harris, Cortez Allen, Shamarko Thomas, Ramon Foster, and Jarvis Jones.
Performances of note
Roethlisberger had more targets today with Antonio Brown, Will Johnson, Martavis Bryant, Heath Miller and Markus Wheaton all on the field. He went three-for-three in the 11-on-11 2-yard drill at the beginning of practice. Jesse James dropped a pass at camp today. It wouldn't be noteworthy had he not struggled so much with catching the darn ball during the HoF game.
