Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp Injury Report 8/11: WR Martavis Bryant returns to practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't see their list of injuries get much longer, but they actually received good news on the injury front Tuesday at training camp.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

As the Pittsburgh Steelers returned to practice after a day off after their 14-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game on Sunday. Their return to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA also marked the return of several marquee names for the Steelers. Take a look at the injury report and who returned, and who was lost throughout Tuesday's workouts.

Sweatpant Squad loses their leader

James Harrison returned to practice after sitting out the previous two weeks of camp simply conditioning. Not that the soon-to-be 37-year-old needs the extra work, but as other players admitted Tuesday, training camp officially started for the Steelers on Tuesday and what better way to set the tone than to have the most intimidating defender re-join the team in practice. I speak for everyone when I welcome 'Deebo' back to the squad.

Martavis and Shamarko return to the field

Martavis Bryant had missed about 10 days after having surgery on his elbow to remove an infection, and Shamarko Thomas had been out for over a week nursing a shoulder injury. Both of the players made their return to the playing field Tuesday. Good news on both fronts as any type of infection could be serious and when a safety has to miss time with a shoulder injury, a part of the body they will utilize to crush opponents, their return is more than welcome.

Shaun Suisham not the only player to have knee surgery

The Steelers announced their kicker wasn't the only player who will need to have some type of knee surgery as it was announced RB Cameron Stingily will also need knee surgery after suffering the injury in the game vs. the Vikings on Sunday.

More players still not back to action...yet

There were players who did not return to practice, and there were some big games who didn't participate Tuesday. Mike Mitchell, Markus Wheaton, Vince Williams and Daniel McCullers continue to nurse hamstring injuries, while Ross Ventrone continues to get back from an injured ankle suffered in the first real workout of training camp. Ventrone was running on the side field today, which is a good sign for a possible return to a very depleted safety position group.
