New, comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team on the mend, and they got some healthy bodies back in the fold Sunday as they began their final week of training camp at Saint Vincent College.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a banged up bunch throughout training camp, but some of those injured players are starting to return to the practice fields, and just at the right time.

For the first time since training camp began, safety Mike Mitchell was a participant in live drills. Mitchell had been nursing a hamstring injury which has kept him out of practicing in live situations for weeks now. This marked the first time he and Shamarko Thomas have been in the deep secondary together since the start of camp.

When Mike Tomlin was asked how big it was having the two back there working together he chuckled and said "pretty big".

Robert Golden who had been sidelined with a knee injury returned to practice Sunday, but not live contact yet. The Steelers will ease Golden back into the fold to ensure his knee injury is fully behind him. Golden, a 2014 special teams captain, would be a welcome sight on special teams in 2015.

Backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list Sunday and practice for the first time at training camp. With Gradkowski coming off the PUP list, it leaves on two players still remaining on said list. Rookie cornerback Senquez Golson (shoulder) and tackle Mike Adams' (back).

Speaking of Mike Adams, Mike Tomlin was asked about his progress and a potential return for the back up swing tackle. Tomlin's response was there is no new news in regards to Adams.

Rookie tight end Cameron Clear was seen walking using a single crutch around Saint Vincent College campus, and a large reason why he didn't participate in the workout Sunday. Joining Clear on the sidelines were Vince Williams (hamstring), Daniel McCullers (hamstring), Steve McLendon (rest day), Jordan Zumwalt (undisclosed), Ross Ventrone (ankle), Josh Harris (foot) and Lawrence Timmons (toe).

Coach Tomlin was asked about the severity of Timmons' toe injury, and he said, "I wouldn't call it significant. I like Lawrence. I'm going to take care of him." Look for the team to be cautious with an injury to their Pro Bowl linebacker in hopes he is fully capable prior to the season opener in September.

The Steelers continue to plow through their final week of training camp at Saint Vincent College with a workout today at 2:55 p.m. EST. As always, the practice is open to the public. The players will have off Tuesday before returning to work Wednesday.
