The blockbuster deal comes just a week before the start of free agency. Alonso reunites with his college coach, Chip Kelly, and McCoy looks to be the primary weapon in Chan Gailey's offense under head coach Rex Ryan.

Brian Galiford of Buffalo Rumblings described the transaction simply, "The Buffalo Bills have a star running back again. It cost them a potentially elite young linebacker to get one."

Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation suggested it was a sell-early mentality. There had been some speculation that McCoy not return to the Eagles this offseason. His 2015 cap hit is scheduled to be nearly $12 million. It seemed like the Eagles may have wanted McCoy to restructure his deal, but recent reports indicated Philadelphia had not reached out to McCoy. And now we know why."
