Now that Colbert came out and straight up denied the rumors, we were having a discussion about it on Beatdown. There is alot of misdirection and straight up lying in the draft, but obviously the Ravens felt there was credible intel enough to trade a 5th rounder, although they did have alot of picks in the middle rounds, so it wasn't as big of a deal.
The sources I found who broke the story were Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Mark Kaboly Steelers beat writer for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. They would seem to have good sources, but since I know that Ravens fans have team writers who we don't care for or trust like Mike Preston, maybe Steelers fans do too.
So do you guys trust these 2?
Steelers likely would have drafted TE Maxx Williams. Ravens obviously knew that and made the trade to get him at No. 55.

The Ravens dealt a fifth-round pick to Arizona to jump up three spots in the second round to take Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams with the 55th pick. That was one pick ahead of Pittsburgh and Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the team was "ready to draft" Williams with the 56th pick.
Steelers tried to move up to take TE Maxx Williams. Couldn't work out deal. Wasn't happy when Ravens picked him.
