Around the NFL: Injuries abound in the preseason

The Steelers aren't the only ones suffering from a spate of unfortunate preseason injuries. A lot of other teams have lost key players as well.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

So far this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have seen kicker Shaun Suisham tear his ACL, Maurkice Pouncey break his leg, and Suisham's replacement Garrett Hartley suffer a potentially serious hamstring injury. Lawrence Timmons is also out with turf toe, and Senquez Golson didn't even get a chance to play this preseason as he sits out with an injured shoulder.

Other teams are dealing with injuries as well. The Texans will be without Arian Foster for a while, and, of course, the Jets have lost their starting QB to a broken jaw.

Here are some other surprising, serious, or impactful injuries of the preseason.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns really can't afford to have key players out with injuries. Already, WR Dwayne Bowe is suffering from a hamstring injury while LB Barkevious Mingo is questionable for the start of the season. WR Josh Gordon, of course, will be serving an indefinite suspension.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams first-round pick was running back Todd Gurley who at the time of the draft, and still today, is recovering from a nasty ACL tear he sustained in a November college game. Gurley has been cleared to practice, but will not be ready for week 1. Meanwhile, 2014-standout RB Tre Mason is out with a sprained hamstring, which could limit his participation early in the season.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers really can't afford to lose any more players since the have already lost so many key players to retirement, injury, suspensions, and free agency. Add WR Jerome Simpson to the suspended list. He will be out the first six games of the season, which means he will not be on the field against the Steelers for their home opener.

Atlanta Falcons

Receiver Roddy White is questionable for the start of the season with an injured elbow.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals were decimated by injuries last season and the trend seems to be continuing so far this preseason. DL Corey Peters and DB Brandon Person are both out for the season with severe injuries while WR Michael Floyd is questionable for week 1. TE Jermaine Gresham has also been struggling with a back injury.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay lost receiver Jordy Nelson to a torn ACL in the same game that sidelined Maurkice Pouncey with a broken leg. This week, fellow receiver Randall Cobb suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder, which the team is calling "minor." Still, a troublesome turn of events for a team still reeling from the season-long loss of Nelson. Starting defensive back Micah Hyde also left the game with an injury to his neck.

Carolina Panthers

WR Kelvin Benjamin is out for the season with a Knee injury. Benjamin had a phenomenal rookie year with over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.

Dallas Cowboys

Cornerback Orlando Scandrick tore his ACL and MCL and will be out for the season. Ouch. DL Greg Hardy will serve his four-game suspension at the beginning of the season, while WR Dez Bryant hopes his hamstring is feeling good enough to play in the first regular season game.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins have had a rough preseason. The latest injury was due to poor decision making by Jay Gruden who left RG3 in long enough to sustain a concussion and a shoulder stinger. Griffin has likely lost his job as a starter, and rumors are swirling that he will be traded to another team.
