We already knew the Pittsburgh Steelers would be without running back Le'Veon Bell, wide receiver Martavis Bryant and center Maurkice Pouncey. After some hectic moves to finalize the 53-man roster, the Steelers moved some of their middle-to-late round draft picks onto the practice squad to make space for more veterans on the roster.
Now with gameday upon us, we finally learn which Steelers will not suit up tonight along with the primary players.
Per Steelers.com, here are the inactives for both teams going into tonight's game. Steelers Inactives vs. New England
Steelers Inactives
Quarterback Landry Jones
Wide receiver Sammie Coates
Cornerback Ross Cockrell
Guard Chris Hubbard
Tight end Jesse James
Defensive end L.T. Walton
Defensive end Caushaud Lyons
Patriots Inactives
Offensive lineman Ryan Wendell
Offesnive lineman Trey Flowers
Running back Travaris Cadet
Safety Tavon Wilson
Defensive lineback Khyri Thornton
Linebacker Rufus Johnson
Cornerback Justin Coleman
Landry Jones is an expected scratch, just as he was throughout the 2014 season. Pittsburgh will do everything in its power to protect Ben Roethlisberger so that he can lead an offensive onslaught against the Patriots. But should Roethlisberger get hurt, Michael Vick is the undisputed replacement. The Steelers need every roster spot they can get to keep fresh legs on the field for special teams and defense, so Jones' spot will naturally be forfeited in that interest. If it did reach the point where Jones was needed, the Steelers would have a lot more to worry about than whether or not he was available.
