Suggesting 2015 wasn't the best year for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Antwon Blake is a huge understatement. For those who love the advanced analytics of the NFL, Blake was considered one of the most targeted cornerbacks in the league. The more they threw his way, the more he got torched, and a reason why he ranked as one of the worst defensive backs in the league in 2015.
Such a statement might make you think teams would shy away from the smaller, but scrappy, Blake in Free Agency. Fans might want to remind themselves just what sport they are following. In the NFL, there is no such thing as washed up or overrated. With that said, Blake has had his share of suitors since becoming an Unrestricted Free Agent at the start of the 2016 NFL league year last Wednesday.
The Antwon Blake Free Agent tour has been to several stops already. He spent time with former defensive coordinator of the Steelers Dick LeBeau and the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, visited Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots Wednesday and is scheduled to visit the Detroit Lions on Thursday.
Now, to be completely honest, a visit doesn't mean he will be given a contract by any of these teams, but it does show interest. Some expected the Steelers to be interested in Blake's services moving forward. Blake is a solid special teams player, and can contribute on the defensive side of the ball as a sub package player and someone who isn't relied upon as a starter.
Blake reportedly played 2015 with a broken hand/thumb and back injuries, but the injuries weren't severe enough to keep him off the field, and his play possibly suffered because of it. If Blake is 100-percent healthy going into 2016, there is a chance he would resemble his 2014 self more than last year's horrid performance. If that is the case, maybe the Steelers should put their name in the hat to try and see if Blake is interested in returning to the Steelers.
