With NFL Free Agency starting to fizzle, all the attention returns to the biggest offseason event for NFL fan bases, and that is the 2017 NFL Draft. With the yearly selection process right around the corner, websites are cranking out mock drafts at a furious rate, and some of them make you scratch your head, while others make you pump your fist hoping this actually takes place.
It is all based on team needs, and for the Pittsburgh Steelers they have plenty. Pass rusher and cornerback would top the list, but quarterback, running back, tight end and even another defensive back or pass rusher would also be big needs for the team coming off their AFC Championship performance the previous year.
Trying to get a feel for what the Steelers will do with their 8 draft picks, remember they have two 3rd round picks due to a compensatory pick, I took at look at the DraftWire’s lastest 7-round mock draft to see just who they had slotted to go to the Steel City in the draft.
This mock draft certainly has the Steelers addressing many team needs, but take a look, and feel free to critique their list in the comment section below.
Round 1: Pick 30. Pittsburgh Steelers | Carl Lawson | EDGE | Auburn
“James Harrison can’t play forever (can he?), and this year’s loaded class presents the Steelers with a perfect opportunity to grab his successor. If healthy, Lawson’s a top-15 talent.”
Round 2: Pick 62. Pittsburgh Steelers | Cordrea Tankersley | CB | Clemson
Round 3: Pick 94. Pittsburgh Steelers | Jake Butt | TE | Michigan
Round 3: Pick 105. Pittsburgh Steelers | Samaje Perine | RB | Oklahoma
Round 4: Pick 135. Pittsburgh Steelers | Josh Jones | S | NC State
Round 5: Pick 173. Pittsburgh Steelers | Avery Genessy | OL | Texas A&M
Round 6: Pick 213. Pittsburgh Steelers | Stacy Coley | WR | Miami (FL)
Round 7: Pick 248. Pittsburgh Steelers | Seth Russell | QB | Baylor
