Steelers meet with pass rusher Carl Lawson at Auburn Pro Day

Pittsburgh Steelers brass was in-person at Auburn’s Pro Day, all for a look at Carl Lawson.

The NFL Scouting Combine is in the rear view mirror, and now NFL teams are moving on to individual schools’ Pro Day workouts. The list is long, and teams’ front office brass has to pick and choose which workouts they attend, while others just have scouts represented.

In other words, the more coaches at a workout, the more interested the team is in a particular prospect. So, for the Pittsburgh Steelers, when Mike Tomlin and General Manager Kevin Colbert attended the Auburn Pro Day, it is safe to say they were interested in some prospects.

Most likely, none of those prospects were more important to them than pass rusher Carl Lawson, who is seen in the picture below with the Steelers’ coach and GM.

This isn’t to suggest there weren’t other prospects at the Pro Day, or the Steelers were the only ones there to see Lawson in person. However, it shows the Steelers are seriously looking at Lawson as a potential pick in Round 1 when the team selects 30th, as well as the team recognizing their need at outside linebacker this season.

Although the team has James Harrison and Bud Dupree as their current starting linebackers, finding a pass rusher who could help spell Harrison, be a part-time player and learn from the all-time sacks leader would be an ideal situation for the black and gold heading into 2017.

The question is, will Lawson be their guy? Only time will tell.
