The Pittsburgh Steelers have their favorites in the crop of edge rushers in the 2017 NFL Draft. Yes, they were at Auburn to meet with Carl Lawson, but they were recently at Youngstown State’s Pro Day to get another look at Derek Rivers.
I say another because the team has now met with Rivers three times. They met at the Senior Bowl, and the NFL Scouting Combine and again at his Pro Day. All they need is to have him for a pre-draft visit, and they will have exhausted their options in regards to talking to him before the selection process begins.

Although the majority of the Steelers’ brass was back in Pittsburgh working on signing a few unrestricted free agents, outside linebackers coach Joey Porter was on hand to witness Rivers work in his home facility.
If the Steelers don’t like Rivers as a potential prospect, they are doing a bang up job hiding it! On top of the news regarding the team visiting Youngstown State, it should be noted Porter was in attendance, which means he seems to be in good standing with the organization after his altercation following the team’s AFC Wild Card win over the Miami Dolphins.
Rivers comes from a small school, and the Steelers don’t mind small school players, but rarely in the first round. Which begs the question, will Rivers be there in the second?
