There’s been speculation brewing regarding the Steelers draft plans, is it believable?

There’s been no rest for the weary when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers draft plans, and what they could do. The Steelers are now apparently eyeing the best defensive back available with the 30th pick, according to NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala.

She was quoted saying:

“The Steelers will take the best available, be it a safety or a cornerback, when it is their turn; at least that is what I was told today. They need to be able to play man coverage. It’s not something we’ve seen”

She also ended up reporting that Kevin Colbert “Loves” Jabrill Peppers.

In terms of what I think of Peppers being the 30th pick, as of now, I view it as a reach. I’m studying him a little more in depth trying to figure out what players were asked to play similar roles and how they did in the NFL.

In terms of the draft speculation, it doesn’t stop there. Apparently, Aditi Kinkhabwala also reported that Ben Roethlisberger is lobbying for a tight end to be selected early in the draft. Those reports were recently denied by Roethlisberger himself.

This was the statement he sent out to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

“The report of me lobbying to draft a tight end or pass catcher is wrong. Coaches and teammates know I love the guys we have and always believe we can win. I trust the organization to do their best selecting players to help us, and every year they tell me generally the positions they are exploring, but I have not lobbied or demanded we add a tight end or pass catcher or any other position through the draft or free agency.”

Whoever you may believe, it isn’t crazy to think the Steelers will at least add some sort of pass catcher in this draft. I don’t believe it will be on Day 1, but it would not surprise me to see them take one on Day 2.

This is the time of year where speculation and predictions reign supreme. Luckily for fans, it isn’t too far away from draft day and soon we’ll all have answers.
