Entering the 2017 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a number of draft needs which they needed to address. Outside linebacker, cornerback, safety, defensive line, running back, wide receiver and even quarterback were positions of need to help the black and gold get to the next level in 2017. There have been numerous thoughts and debates regarding what the team will do with the 30th overall draft pick, and the debate is finally over.
The Steelers have selected Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Watt in the first round of the draft.
Pittsburgh showed a tremendous amount of interest in Watt throughout the offseason. They met with him at the NFL Scouting Combine, and after his Pro Day took him out to dinner to get to know him better.
Watt, brother of Houston Texans J.J Watt, tested extremely well at the combine, but is considered a very young and raw athlete. He is tremendous in coverage, and is improving as a pass rusher. His biggest question will be stopping the run. Luckily for Watt, he won’t be asked to come in on Day 1 and start, but will have a chance to learn from James Harrison and Bud Dupree.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' draft needs in the remaining rounds of the draft now would be considered: cornerback, running back and possibly safety, among other positions.
