Reaction of Brian Allen when being drafted by the Steelers is priceless

Sometimes Day-3 draft picks don’t draw the attention of earlier draft picks, but when Brian Allen got the phone call from Mike Tomlin, his reaction was priceless.

The NFL Draft is a fascinating event to watch. You watch these young men, who never got paid a dime besides college tuition, become millionaires in the blink of an eye and a dialing of the phone.

Everyone knows the scene in the green room when athletes have their entire family and entourage at the table when the phone rings and they hear the good news of them being taken in the early rounds of the selection process.

But sometimes you also get a glimpse of what it’s like for a late-round pick to get that phone call. At times these are players wondering whether they’d even get a call during the three day draft, or if they’ll have to land a contract as an undrafted free agent to get onto an NFL team’s offseason roster.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Brian Allen in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, his reaction after getting the call from a 412 area code is priceless. He doesn’t go running into the ocean a la Juju Smith-Schuster, but his jubilation is genuine and shows sincere gratitude.

As for Allen, the work officially begins now as he starts his career as a professional cornerback, and a member of the Black-and-Gold.

For me and all of us here at BTSC, we wish Allen nothing but the best of luck as he hopes to find a permanent home in that same 412 area code which called him to give him the good draft-day news.
