Pittsburgh received the football to start the second half, but it was more of the same sloppy football on their opening possession. After a three-and-out, Jordan Berry punted the ball to Cleveland, and Kizer quickly moved the offense into field goal position. The Steelers defense held the Browns to a field goal, making the score 14-10 with 9:27 left in the third quarter.
Not to be shut out the entire quarter, Roethlisberger orchestrated a drive of his own, aided by a 40-yard defensive pass interference call, which ended in another touchdown pass to Jesse James. After the Chris Boswell point-after, the Steelers extended their lead 21-10.

Cleveland had a chance to answer, and despite two personal foul calls on Pittsburgh during the drive, DeShone Kizer made his first big mistake of the game as fellow rookie T.J. Watt dropped into coverage for the interception.
The Steelers ended the third quarter with the football and facing a third down play.
