Steelers Injury Report: Good news but a confusing Steelers injury update

New, comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back on the practice field and most of the news was good, but some was head-scratching.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were back on the practice field Wednesday, as they began their preparation for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6. Going up against the last remaining undefeated team and currently the best team in the NFL is no easy task, and you want all hands on deck for this one.

For the first time in quite awhile, that’s exactly what the Steelers have going for them this week. Marcus Gilbert returned as a full participant, but we’ve already seen this song-and-dance during the past two weeks. He practices fully on Wednesday, only to be downgraded on Thursday and Friday. If Gilbert can practice fully Thursday, it’ll be a great sign and a much needed addition to round out the offensive line.

Other than Gilbert, the Steelers’ injury report was head-scratching. Players like Maurkice Pouncey and Ramon Foster were given the day off with chest and back injuries—new to the report in the past few weeks. Ryan Shazier also popped up on the report with a quadriceps injury.

Most of these players will likely play on Sunday, but were held out or limited as nothing more than precautions. But it should be noted that Ben Roethlisberger was a full participant at practice, something he hasn’t done on Wednesdays in the past few weeks. Nonetheless, with his play headed south, the team thought it might be best for him to get as many reps as possible heading into the biggest game of the season.
