While the Pittsburgh Steelers scouting department is out in full force checking out numerous Pro Days across the country, the team will soon start hosting their official pre-draft visits at their team facility.
Every NFL franchise can host around 30 players for pre-draft visits, and rumors have started to swirl about players who have said they will be headed to the Steel City for a more in-depth one-on-one meeting with the team.
The latest rumor is surrounding University of Maryland linebacker Jermaine Carter. This from Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst:
Linebacker Jermaine Carter, who was graded as a potential late round pick entering the season, ran much faster than anticipated. Carter measured 6-foot-1-inch, 222 pounds and timed as fast as 4.69s in the forty, a full tenth faster than expected. He also touched 34.5 inches in the vertical jump.
Carter has four official pre-draft visits scheduled with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs. He was also interviewed by linebacker coaches from the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants.
Carter is another very versatile linebacker who could be a late round, or undrafted free agent, the team could add to play special teams and possibly develop into a player who has a specific role on the team.
