The Pittsburgh Steelers have huge needs at both inside linebacker and safety, so we take a look at who is left in free agency at those two positions.

The Pittsburgh Steelers did what they normally do on Day 1 of NFL Free Agency — not much.

Pittsburgh released Mike Mitchell, William Gay and Robert Golden, and that wraps up the team’s first day of free agency, but the gigantic holes left on their roster at inside linebacker and safety remain.

At this point, fans are wondering which free agents are left after the feeding frenzy has died down. Below are the available free agents of note at both inside linebacker and safety. This list can certainly change with players being signed, but this is where we sit heading into the second official day of free agency.

Safety

Top Tier:
Tyrann Mathieu
Morgan Burnett
Eric Reid
Kenny Vaccaro
Tyvon Branch

Others Available: Steven Terrell, Tre Boston, Marcus Gilchrist, Quintin Demps, Reggie Nelson, Ron Parker

Inside Linebacker

Top Tier:
Tahir Whitehead
NaVorro Bowman

Others Available: Zach Brown, Connor Barwin, Lamarr Houston, Brian Cushing, Jerrell Freeman, Derrick Johnson, Jon Bostic, Kevin Minter, Gerald Hodges

...

The Steelers are following their usual pattern of activity in free agency to a ‘T’. They let the first wave of big-name players go to potential suitors, and when things die down, along with the price tag of many players, they go and make their moves.

Last year was a perfect example of how the Steelers do business, when it comes to free agency. Although entertaining Dont’a Hightower, the team ended up signing Coty Sensabaugh, Tyson Alualu and eventually Joe Haden. No major splashes, just adding depth where needed.

Look for a similar pattern this year as the organization continues to try and fill holes on their roster.
