The Pittsburgh Steelers may have taken the week off last Sunday, but there was no respite from the BTSC staff picks. After a rather pedestrian showing the week before, Jeff Hartman was 7-6 versus the totals and 5-8 against the spread, while I was 9-4 ATS and 8-5 versus the totals in Week 8. With the results from exactly 100 games predicted so far, both of us are barely above .500 on the year so far and we will be looking for a strong second half to the season to achieve any level of respectability in 2018.
After a week in which only two games featured a spread of more than 7-points, there are five games split by a spread of more than 8-points this Sunday. However, despite the high spreads, most of the heavy favorites in those contests look good value to cover. Of the remaining other eight matchups on the schedule, none have a spread of over 3.5-points.
Pittsburgh took the top spot in the AFC North during their bye week after all of their rivals lost. With the Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) visiting the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5) hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there is a a chance the Steelers could create some more daylight over at least one of them in the standing with a win over the Cleveland Browns (+8.5) at Heinz Field.
