The Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars have a history with one another which dates back to the days of the AFC Central division, but the most recent history leaves a bad taste in Steelers fans’ mouths.
The Jaguars came to Heinz Field twice in 2017 and beat the Steelers, the latter of those two meetings was the upset win in the AFC Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs. Needless to say, the Jaguars, despite their record, will get the Steelers’ full attention this Sunday.
The two teams heading into this game couldn’t be on more different trajectories. The Steelers have won 5 in a row, with a 6-2-1 record, and the Jaguars have stumbled out to a 3-6 start. Nonetheless, when these two square off in Week 11, all bets are off. So, with that said, who do the experts like in this matchup?
Let’s take a look...
With the Steelers starting to look more like the team fans expected heading into the season, it isn’t a surprise the majority of picks are leaning towards the visitors. In fact, at CBS Sports (7 of 8), ESPN (9 of 10), and SB Nation (6 of 7) all of their experts but one likes the Steelers to go to Florida and advance their winning streak to six games.
The one kicker in this situation is how these are only a few of the websites who produce weekly expert picks. With so many sites out there, I utilize the skills of NFL Pick Watch, a website which tabulates all NFL expert picks and puts them into an easy-to-read chart, to give us an idea who all of the experts are picking in this game.
According to NFL Pick Watch, a whopping 93% of experts who produce weekly picks are leaning hard towards the Steelers in this Week 11 contest. Now, you don’t have to tell Steelers fans about how this type of scenario has happened before, and how the team fell flat on their face, but for those screaming ‘trap game’, it won’t be difficult for Mike Tomlin and company to roll some footage of last year’s losses to get the team focused and fired up to make a statement, and put a huge hit to Jacksonville’s playoff hopes.
Will the experts be right? Or will the Steelers get tripped up, again, by the Jaguars? Only time will tell, but it is clear those who are “in the know” like the boys from the Steel City this weekend.
