The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most recognizable professional sports teams in the world, and there is a reason why — they win. Having the trophy case the Steelers have, it is easy to develop a fan base. After all, if you retrace the steps, every one of us likely has derived from a fair weather fan who jumped on board at one point or another. Maybe it was watching Franco Harris’ shoe string catch vs. the Oakland Raiders, or Santonio Holmes’ toe-tapping grab in Super Bowl 43.
When and how you became a fan isn’t important, but that you bleed black and gold is what should stand out.
On this Thanksgiving, I give thanks to each and every one of you who might be reading this article. Without you, there is no Behind the Steel Curtain, and this place so many of us call ‘home’ wouldn’t exist.
I realize many of you reading this don’t celebrate the American holiday, but it is a great chance for me, the editor of this fine establishment, to take a minute to let everyone out there who is a part of this machine I truly appreciate their efforts.
I thank my writing staff who work tirelessly on providing quality content for you to consume. Producing 10 articles a day isn’t easy, but teamwork does indeed make the dreamwork and we have been able to achieve this lofty goal so far during the 2018 regular season. Their work shouldn’t go unnoticed by anyone who reads the site religiously, they are what make this site great. It is because of the different perspectives and opinions we have a little bit of everything for fans to enjoy and consume on a daily basis!
I thank the duo which handles our social media presence. Social media can be an ugly arena, but they tackle it with a unique perspective few others offer. They are growing this area of the site, and making our different areas in the wide world of social media a fun place for Steelers fans to go and enjoy nothing but black-and-gold goodness.
I thank the moderators here at BTSC, but more importantly Ralph Iddings (our Community Manager). There is no job more thankless than those who try to keep peace in the murky swimming pool which is the comment section. His work, and that of his moderators, allow me to focus on the content on the site, and for that I am extremely grateful.
I thank anyone who helps with the podcast platform of the website. Lance Williams and I have been producing podcasts for the site for 4 years now, and the platform has improved and grown all along the way. The BTSC platform of podcasts was the fastest growing podcast in the month of October, and it is because of the quality content we are producing.
I thank my family, because sacrificing a game day knowing dad will be watching the game with a laptop in front of him isn’t always easy for young children, but my wife and kids are troopers. They know the Steelers aren’t just a hobby for me anymore, but work, and I appreciate their understanding when those Thursday night games are the absolute worst. My wife is a saint.
Last, but certainly not least, I thank the Steelers organization. After all, without them, and their many successes, this site could just be another run of the mill site covering a mediocre NFL team. Instead, it is a website which provides content to the most rabid, and spoiled, fan base in the NFL. I get to write about winning streaks, playoff appearances, and hopefully a Super Bowl victory this year — it could be very, very different.
To you, the reader, I hope you continue to enjoy the site and all it has to offer. Spread the love with your fellow Steelers brethren, and always remember — we are all here for the same purpose: to cheer for the Pittsburgh Steelers!
So, sit back and enjoy the family, food and football this Thanksgiving, and GO STEELERS!
