Steelers vs. Saints, Week 16: Knee-jerk reactions to the Steelers’ heartbreaking loss to the Saints

One BTSC writer shares his real-time, initial thoughts of the Steelers devestating loss.

It’s very close to threat level midnight for the Pittsburgh Steelers after Baltimore’s big win in Lipstick City last night. They lose against the juggernaut Saints and they are going to need big time help next week.

Nonetheless, a simple reminder, a knee jerk reaction is an immediate and unthinking, emotional reaction. It’s basically shooting first and apologizing later. I can safely say that’s a true definition of your’s truly and a good lot of Steeler Nation. Here’s my real-time reactions during the Steelers’ most recent battle.

Quarter 1

  • Tracy Wolfson tweeted that Boswell was so erratic that he almost hit her in warmups. That’s not good.
  • Saying it early. Turnover margin will decide this game.
  • First down right away. Look for JuJu to get a lot of action today.
  • Gotta punt. Nuts.
  • Two Hills screwed up on that play.
  • Nice pickoff by Davis. Yesssssssss!!!!!!!!

  • That was a dangerous grab of the helmet on Sean Davis. Good call.
  • Jim Nantz learned to pronounce Fichtner.
  • That screen pass could have worked. Sniffed out.
  • Do you actually go for two here?
  • No, not Boz.
  • Nice stop on a tough running team.
  • Not a big fan of them going for it on fourth down.
  • No way was that pass interference. Pure BS.
  • That was good coverage by Haden and nothing more.
  • Samuels isn’t having any luck against the top defense in the league.
  • And I stand corrected.
  • Now that was PI. Not a makeup call.
  • That was a beautiful pass to McDonald.
  • I thought Ben looked jittery on it at first....but nice.

Quarter 2

  • Really need to convert here. Steelers have to stay with these guys.
  • That could have been bad. Ben overthrew it.
  • Short stuff for Boz worries me.
  • He wanted to push it right. But I’ll take it.
  • I hate domes. Too dark for me.
  • Too much of a cushion on these guys.
  • Why is Tomlin not challenging that one?
  • Another horrendous call on the PI.
  • Poor tackling.
  • Ben has got to calm down and answer here.
  • And he didn’t.
  • Brees looks younger than Brady did last week.
  • AB is so clutch.
  • Definitely a sack by Davisson on Ben.
  • Live and die with AB here.
  • Still gotta burn clock.
  • We’ll take the one-yard line on that. Got ripped off of a JuJu celebration though.
  • That hand off could have gone very badly. Good job by Ben and Ridley.
  • Nice drive. I like that play to Samuels.

  • Got to go for two.
  • Obviously they do too. Rogers getting involved.
  • Can’t give up points here.
  • Kamara Chamelon. That guy is amazing. But it’s imperative to keep them from scouting there. Ridiculous defensively.

Quarter 3

  • Brutal tackle by Tuitt. Nice.
  • Kamara is so slick and dangerous. That’s going to be a killer.
  • They are falling apart here early.
  • Where’s the hold?
  • Really need to pick that off.
  • Just delaying the inevitable. Going to get six.
  • Saints are getting all of the luck.
  • See?
  • If they don’t answer here. They’re done.
  • JuJu playing hurt. Showing lots of guts.

  • Love Switz.
  • Ben makes me nervous in this area of the field.
  • Third time a charm.
  • Beautiful pitch-and-catch to AB.
  • Defensive stop...please.
  • Watt and Heyward. Big Sack.
  • Defense is swarming. Gotta keep it going on third and 16.
  • Huge defensive series. This time Dupree and Tuitt.
  • Doesn’t count. But ABsolutely gorgeous.
  • That one does count. Wow!!!!
  • Missed it there, but really amping up the pressure.

Quarter 4

  • Finally a breakup without a flag. I like Burnett.
  • Good way to start with a nice run.
  • Awesome combat running by Jaylen.
  • Wow. Glad Eli hung onto that.
  • Tony Toe Tap.
  • Be decisive, Samuels.
  • Crap Ridley.
  • Knee was down. We need help from New York.
  • That could be a killer.
  • I agree with Romo. Poor play call.
  • Why was Kirkwood all alone?
  • Third-and-11. Sack up. Get the stop.
  • Watt with the pressure. Burnett with the finisher.
  • L.J. Fort...Phenomenal.
  • Good start.
  • Ben missed JuJu.
  • Get it back.
  • Love the fake. But way too short.
  • Defense needs to close this out.
  • Nothing stupid.
  • Those flags came so late.
  • That hold was nice. But lucky we didn’t get called for late hit.
  • Nice coverage by Sensabaugh.
  • That was a gift.
  • That was a regift. Oh no.
  • Thats a TD.
  • This is where Ben and AB need to come up big.
  • Switz is due.
  • Well, I guess not. He stated in.
  • That was ugly from Ben. C’mon buckle up.
  • Maybe some mid stuff?
  • Tony Toe Tap is the best.
  • Nice JuJu.
  • Holy crap.
  • Devestating loss.
  • What a way to lose.
