Steelers Week 17 injury report: Vince Williams doubtful, Antonio Brown, Sean Davis and James Conner questionable

The Steelers look likely to be without at least one defensive starter on Sunday and could yet be missing some key names on offense against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17.

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are heavy favorites for their last regular season game of 2018, their final injury report of the year does not make good reading ahead of a must win game. With Vince Williams officially listed as doubtful for Week 17 and Sean Davis, Antonio Brown and James Conner all listed as questionable, the Steelers could potentially be significantly shorthanded on both sides of the ball.

Neither Williams or Brown has practiced all week long and although AB’s absence on Wednesday was not injury related, it would appear he has been suffering with a knee issue since Sunday according to Mike Tomlin, as he told Teresa Varley of Steelers.com.

“Coming out of the game AB was experiencing some knee discomfort. I gave him a vet day on Wednesday. He got in here yesterday and didn’t feel comfortable enough to do it. We sent him for tests today. We’ll get the results of those tests and have more information. He is a veteran player. If he gets better not a lot of physical repetitions needed to perform. We’ll see where all of that goes.”

While Davis was forced to miss training on Wednesday and Thursday, he was able to practice fully on Friday and there is a realistic chance he may be medically cleared to play come Sunday. Ultimately, Conner might actually be the injured player with the best chance of suiting up on Sunday despite his long term ankle problem after he was able to take a full part in training every day this week.

With Chris Boswell having been placed on injured reserve on Friday, those hoping the Steelers might have a decent explanation for such a serious problem that required shutting him down for the year, regardless of possibly making the playoffs, Tomlin’s explanation later in the day was far from satisfactory.

“Boz experienced some discomfort on Sunday in performing in the game. His usual work day is Thursday. We waited to see the ramifications of that yesterday. He was a full participant yesterday but felt some discomfort after. We felt it was necessary to make a move.”

Cincinnati have ruled Vontaze Burfict out of the game with a concussion and for the sake of Pittsburgh defensive coordinator Keith Butler, it is worth mentioning that Tyler Eifert is still on injured reserve as well.
