Walk The Mock on a Tuesday with Shamarknado

Hey Yinzers!

It's been a while since I've been on to do a mock Monday. Pittsblitz56 has been admirably filling in, in my stead. I am watching my 9 month old boy and I am sure most of you can empathize. I look forward to kicking a mock scenario with some of you mock addicts, if only for a brief time.

My Moves as a GM

Let LeVeon Bell walk. Mike Mitchell can take a long deserved hike. Reluctantly cut Ramon Foster. Don't re-sign McCullers. There isn't really anyone I am clamoring for in free agency, so I am going to avoid that all together and save the cap space.

Team Needs

LB and FS are pretty much in emergency mode with the loss of Shazier and Mitchell hitting the road so I will look to fill those roles early. I don't believe QB should be a priority this year but if the right prospect falls I might consider the move. Beyond that, I think RB should be an option early as well. While I don't think CB is a priority, another depth move should be made following Gay's release. OLB could also use some depth.

Round 1

Trade down. Mason Rudolph and Josh Allen were still on the board, but I am going to pass and pick up additional picks from NYG who didn't nab a QB early on. I picked up an early 2nd and 4th by trading down.

Round 2

Pick 2:2 (Via NYG) Justin Reid, FS - Stanford

Reid is an obvious choice to fill the role Mitchell leaves behind. He is solid in both the run and the pass and can force turnovers.

Pick 2:28 Kerryon Johnson, RB - Auburn

I considered trading up to land Johnson but my patience paid off as he fell to #28. Johnson is a natural replacement for Bell and his play is comparable to Bell's as well.

Round 3

Pick 3:28 Jerome Baker, LB - Ohio St.

Everyone knows the Ohio St. / Pittsburgh connection is strong, so this could very be the real deal. Baker is a thumper with some good speed on him. He should slide in at ILB.

Round 4

Pick 4:2 Khalil Hodge, LB - Buffalo

I decided to double up on LB early. Hodge was a tackling machine at Buffalo and he will compete with Baker and Williams for starting duties.

Round 5

Pick 5:11 Kameron Kelly, CB - San Diego St.

Kelly has the size (6"1') and has shown solid coverage ability.

Pick 5:28 Olasunkanmi Adeniyi, EDGE - Toledo

Purely a depth pick, but was productive at Toledo

Round 7

Pick 7:2 Daylon Mack, NT - Texas A&M

McCullers replacement

Pick 7:28 Bryce Bobo, WR - Colorado

Purely a camp body

Looking Back

I was comfortable trading back a few spots with the Giants with the players on the board at the time. I think I made the right choice to skip on the QB this year. I nabbed a solid FS with my first pick, Justin Reid. I really liked double dipping at LB with Shazier on the shelf and depth being a big priority as well. I think the competition there will cause the cream to rise to the top. I personally would love this draft, but of course I am a little biased. It was my draft of course. :)

Let me know what you think and put on your GM hat and run a mock on your favorite simulator.
