Knee Jerk Reactions from Round One of the 2018 NFL Draft

Knee-jerk Reactions are immediate responses to a situation without taking the time to analyze the situation. That’s something as sports fans that we typically do. As is the custom, I compile my knee jerk thoughts and publish them immediately after each Steelers game. It’s my version of shooting first and apologizing later. So with that being said, I’m going to employ that philosophy here during the NFL Draft.

• Goodell’s quote, “I can’t believe you’re booing the Cowboys!” is good stuff.
• Staubach threw a ball into the Steelers section and a yinzer wearing a Steeler jersey caught it. Seems fitting. It’s a 70s Super Bowl in Miami all over again.
• My buddy Chad just texted me and said “Leighton Vander Esch’s mom is hot. I hope we draft him”. I’m not sure if that is criteria for Colbert and Tomlin or not. But he’s got a point.
• Mayfield. Yep. Same old Browns. They could’ve traded down.
• Barkley will be a stud in the Big Apple. Should’ve went number one.
• The Jets are about to get a gift with Darnold.
• Wait a second, didn’t Mayfield plant an Oklahoma flag on Ohio soil?
• I think Cleveland goes Chubb here, But then again, they are the Browns.
• Ward is good. But wow!!!! Love it. Don’t have to worry about Rothlisberger having his face ripped off by Chubb.
• Chubb and Von Miller together. Denver fans are getting the surname of the guy they just picked.
• Nelson is a phenomenal pick. I wonder how seriously the Colts considered a QB though. I’m afraid Luck could be done.
• Good deal for Bucs and Bills. Figured they were trading. I think Bills go with a Josh. I’d go Allen.
• Two second rounders for a possible franchise QB? That’s a steal.
• There’s one ILB down. The Windy City is going to love Roquan Smith.
• McGlinchey solid. Let ILBs slide.
• I could see Baltimore moving up for Rosen.
• Arizona. Thank you. But I was hoping they’d take Lamar.
• Rosen + Cards makes sense.
• I know Miami wanted a QB. But Minkah is a stud.
• Didn’t see Vea going to Tampa. Like it though. Their line is lethal.
• Redskins are up. They are always an adventure.
• Not a sexy pick for Washington, but Payne is solid.
• New Orleans was an ILB threat too. Are they going Lamar Jackson or Edmunds?
• Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa! NO must think this guy is the next Lawrence Taylor.
• Pens lose Game One in 2016 at Washington and Steelers take Artie Burns. Pens win Game One in 2017 at Washington and Steelers take T.J. Watt. Pens win Game One in 2018 at Washington and Steelers take ???????
• I think Raiders are going Edmunds. Don’t want him slipping to B-More.
• Miller? Hmmmmmmmmm! Gruden pick. If Ravens don’t sprint up and take Edmunds, I’d be shocked. Scratch that. Trade. If Bills don’t sprint up and take Edmunds, I’d be shocked.
• Shocked Derwin James is still there. LA Chargers got a steal here.
• No clue what Seattle is going to do. I’d gather O-Line.
• I need a trade tracker. My head is spinning. Do Pack go WR? Cowboys want Ridley. Packers may steal him. This stadium is going to blow.
• Jaire Alexander has risen lately. The Pack wanted secondary help. I get it.
• I think Ridley is the guy for Dallas.
• Drew Pearson was funnier when he was roasting Phily last year. Now, groannnnnnnnnnnn.
• Martavis for the 75th pick. Losing him next year for sure. Deep draft for receivers. Weren’t getting anything better. Smart deal.
• LVE gone to Dallas. Crap. Evans isn’t going to fall to the Steelers.
• I see Detroit going Harold Landry.
• Crap. Was thinking Cincy would take Ragnow.
• The unholy trinity is up next. Cincy, Balt and NE.
• Bungled. What? Didn’t see this coming. Reach!!!
• Dammit! Titans trade up, they’re gonna go Evans here. No ILB for Steelers....I’m afraid.
• Noooooooooooooooo!
• Pats need to replace Solder. I can’t argue this pick of Wynn.
• WR for Carolina. Sure.
• Alabama receiver for Baltimore. Water is wet. Gotta be.
• Wow. Hurst is a great TE. We are gonna have to deal with a former Pirates pitcher twice a year. I hope his career mirrors his baseball career.
• Let’s trade down with the Giants. They need a QB.
• Alabama Falcons? Atlanta will be lethal with Ridley and Julio Jones.
• Seattle picked a running back from the witness protection program. Looks like a kick returner extraordinaire. But what happens when they ban kickoffs?
• Ryan Shazier walking out to make that pick was a beautiful sight to see.
• Edmunds to the Steelers. Definitely not a sexy pick. Yinzers everywhere are going to freak out.
• Wonder if the Steelers thought they were getting the other Edmunds, his brother.
• Minnesota got a solid player in the CB Hughes. I would’ve been fine with that for Pittsburgh.
• Sony Michel in New England. This guy is the best of that stable.
• Eagles are going to grab Guice. They don’t need any more QBs, so it looks like Lamar Jackson slips to the second round.
• What? Hold the phone. Ravens are taking Jackson. Wow!
• Did Lamar Jackson just win the Masters? Where else would he get that green jacket.
• Jackson shouldn’t hurt the Steelers right away, but he’s going to be dangerous.
• Can’t wait for tomorrow, some big talent available.
