Entering the 2018 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a number of draft needs which they needed to address. Inside linebacker, safety, running back, wide receiver and even quarterback were positions of need to help the black and gold get to the next level in 2018. There have been numerous thoughts and debates regarding what the team will do with their Day 1 and 2 selections. With the 28th overall draft pick the team added Terrell Edmunds, a safety from Virginia Tech, n the second round the Steelers added wide receiver James Washington, but there is more talent to be acquired.

The Steelers have selected QB Mason Rudolph with their first of two picks in the third round of the draft.

Mason Rudolph is a big bodies, big armed quarterback who could very well be viewed as the future at the quarterback position for the Steelers. Rudolph impressed in the high flying Oklahoma State system, and will have a chance to learn under Ben Roethlisberger before getting a chance to take over.

It should be noted Rudolph and James Washington, the Steelers’ 2nd round pick, will be playing together again in the Steel City.

This from his NFL Draft Profile:

Pocket quarterback with good size who has shown consistent improvement as a passer. Rudolph is more of a downfield, play-action passer than a quarterback who can win with precision and arm strength. He’s a capable field reader who has the ability to operate with timing which will be important since his arm can be dull at times. Rudolph could be an early backup with the potential of becoming an average to below average starter in the league.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft needs in the remaining rounds of the draft now would be considered: running back, cornerback, offensive line and absolutely inside linebacker, among other positions.
