Knee Jerk Reactions from Day 2 of the 2018 NFL Draft

One BTSC writer shares his initial and real time unadulterated reactions to the second and third rounds of the NFL draft.

Once again, Knee-jerk Reactions are immediate responses to a situation without taking the time to analyze the situation. That’s something as sports fans that we typically do. As is the custom, I compile my knee jerk thoughts and publish them immediately after each Steelers game. It’s my version of shooting first and apologizing later. So with that being said, I’m going to employ that philosophy here and follow up yesterday’s Day One account with my Day Two patella ponderings.

  • The Browns surprised me here at the top of the draft. I figured that they’d go Connor Williams. but they add another Nevada Wolf Packer to Joel Bitonio on the O-line in the form of Austin Corbett.
  • Wow! GMen get Will Hernandez from UTEP. This guy is nasty. He’ll have multiple trips to Orlando.
  • Steelers one of five teams that are looking to trade up. Hmmmmmm.
  • Bradley Chubb is a stud. He overcame a devastating knee injury as a sophomore at UGA. He could have gone Barkley high had it not been for that.
  • AFC South teams are all trying to match defensive success of the Jags. Indy just took Darius Leonard. I think he was a major Steeler target at ILB. Really wanted him. Who else is there?
  • Jones, Daniels, Sutton...all solid grabs.
  • Titans are building a nasty defense in the AFCS as well. Rashaan Evans inside and Harold Landry outside. Vrabel knows defense. Look out.
  • Mike Gesicki from PSU goes to Miami. I wanted him, but not at the expense of defense. Plus, I am content with McDonald. But he’s gotta stay out of the tub.
  • Pettis to SF. This guy seemed to be on Steeler radar even before Martavis deal. They are probably going WR in third. Defense is still bigger need.
  • Green Bay is building a nasty an potentially dominant defensive backfield. Corners in Alexander and now Josh Jackson. Rodgers is not going to have to score 40 points per game now.
  • This is like a nastier version of a Dean Martin roast. David Akers is taunting Dallas about trading up at stealing a TE named Dallas (Goedert). I don't even think they need a TE in Phily so bad. With Witten retiring today, this pick screamed Dallas. Now if there was only a guy named Phil that Jerry Jones can pilfer.
  • Connor Williams to the Cowboys. Love it. This guy is emotional to play for his hometown team. His anti-bullying campaign will help a lot of kids too. Class guy.
  • Glad Steelers passed on Guice. Now, there’s another thing that he’s being investigated for. Washington can have him.
  • No clue who they are going with here. Gotta be defense. Fred Warner maybe? Another safety like Reid? Too early for Rudolph.
  • Interesting. Not too surprised at position, but didn't expect Washington. I’ve watched tape on this cat. He’s unique. Kind of like this. But gotta address the D.
  • Remember, most of you bitched about JuJu last year at number two. I did not. Now, you all are like the extra million people that claimed to have gone to Woodstock.
  • Good for Brian O’Neill.
  • Justin Reid to the Texans. Will McNair let big bro Eric visit his new safety?
  • Ravens keep trading. They are going to have 80 picks soon. At least that's most of Alabama that will have jobs.
  • Trade. Its gonna be Rudolph. They are doing to Cincy what the Bungles always do to them. I think Cincy really wants Rudolph.
  • Landry Jones just shot out his TV screen.
  • I get this. Ben isn't going to always play a full 16. This could be a nice bridge or a NE/Jimmy G situation that nets a pick. Bridge is better.
  • It is paramount to go ILB at 92. I just don't know who. I like Josey Jewell. But we already have a Dirty Red. Plus, it is way too early.
  • Loved the intro for the Orlando Brown pick. Hate the Ravens, but this is great for the late Zeus’ boy.
  • Surely Ozzie is going Ronnie Harrison here. He always gets his Tide guy.
  • Why does Harrison keep falling?
  • The next nine Raven picks will be Tight Ends.
  • Andrews could be tough though.
  • I want Harrison Phillips. This guy seems tough. But why not Ronnie Harrison? Somebody named Harrison. James Harrison, Harrison Ford, Josh Harrison, William Henry Harrison.
  • Who? No yinzer will ever be able to pronounce Chukwuma Okorafor’s name. They have to address offensive line depth and he seems like a starter in time, but with apologies to Dave Thomas and Clara Peller...”Where’s the Deef?”.
  • Finally, the Harrisons go. They play defense.
  • I abhor Bills Mafia. But kudos to the NFL for honoring cancer patient Pancho Billa. That was awesome.
  • They need to package a five and a seven to move into the fourth round on Saturday.
  • Overall, I'm starting to feel this draft more. But for the love of Dan Rooney, Myron Cope and everything holy on Saturday...NO MO O.
