There is no question the Pittsburgh Steelers did a lot of talking last year. This talking wasn’t just on the football field, but in other areas too. Players put their foot in their mouths on social media, in interviews and everywhere else.
As the team reported to Training Camp on Wednesday, defensive leader Vince Williams showed up in style, but what he said on his verified Twitter account later in the day spoke louder than any possible words could have.
See what was said:
My tweets will be very limited this year and so will my interviews. We talked to much last year, it’s walking time. Goodnight and God bless
— Vince Williams (@VinnyVidiVici98) July 26, 2018
Sure, Williams can only control his own social media activity, but notice the second sentence in the tweet where he doesn’t use ‘my’, but ‘we’.
They say acknowledging you have a problem is the first step to making a real change, and Williams’ doing this might just be the first step telling fans this 2018 Steelers team might be different. They might actually let their play on the field do the talking, rather than what is being said on various social media platforms.
Some will be hesitant to believe what Williams has to say, and rightfully so. At this stage of the game, actions will speak louder than words. So if Williams, and his teammates, want to prove a higher level of focus in 2018, they will do so not with social media posts, but by changed behavior which results in a better product on the football field.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I look forward to the prospect of this happening this season!
