The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to rest several of their key starters against the Carolina Panthers in their fourth preseason contest of the year, and for 39 names on the roster, it could be the last live game action they see this season. The Steelers must reduce their roster to its 53-man limit by 4 pm on Saturday and many of the players on the sidelines Thursday night will be looking for a new job in the coming days. .

Only one change has been made to the roster since Pittsburgh last took to the field, with wide receiver Ryan Switzer replacing Justin Thomas. Switzer has been given the same jersey number that Thomas had been carrying throughout training camp and he’ll be wearing No. 18 against the Panthers.

After some of the returning veterans in the secondary opted for new numbers this offseason, there are changes to be aware of this year with Joe Haden, Sean Davis and Mike Hilton all sporting different looks. For those struggling to keep up with all of the new shirt numbers, our updated roster list should help you keep track of who’s who.

Not every jersey number is exclusive to only one player, and there a handful of names who will be carrying the same number on offense and defense in preseason. For example, running back James Conner and defensive back Jamar Summers will both wear No. 30, while Parker Cothern and Larson Graham are both wearing No. 61.

Before you rush out to buy the jersey of your favorite, undrafted rookie free agent, you might want to wait a few more weeks until the 53-man roster has been decided to see if they keep that number, let alone make the team. The final round of cuts is sure to free-up a few more jerseys, and it would be a surprise if there weren’t a few more number changes before the regular season begins.
