With the Pittsburgh Steelers set to rest many of their starters against the Philadelphia Eagles in their first preseason game of the year, fans will see a lot of unfamiliar numbers on the field for the Black and Gold on Thursday night. After saying goodbye to some veteran names from 2017 this offseason and having seen several players adopting new numbers as they became available, it may be harder than normal for some to track which names are on the field as the game progresses.
Most of the starters in the secondary have shuffled their jersey numbers this offseason and Joe Haden, Sean Davis and Mike Hilton will all have a different look in 2018.
To help you keep track of all the substitutions, our updated 2018 roster list includes all the names and numbers currently listed on the team’s official website. Not all shirt numbers are exclusive to one player and there a handful of names on offense and defense that will be carrying the same number for the Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field. Both running back James Conner and defensive back Jamar Summers will wear number 30 for example, but it should not be too hard to tell them apart given their respective physiques and positions
Before you rush out to buy the jersey of your favorite undrafted rookie free agent, you might want to wait a few more weeks until the 53-man roster has been decided to see if they keep that number, let alone make the team. The final round of cuts if sure to free up a few more jerseys and it would be a surprise if there were not a few more number changes before the regular season begins.
