Chiefs’ safety Eric Berry remains sidelined by heel injury leading up to Steelers game

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be facing a Chiefs team without one of their best defensive weapons on Sunday at Heinz Field.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team brimming with potential on offense. With talent at nearly every position, Pittsburgh looks to exploit their opponent’s weaknesses and make them pay. It might be with Antonio Brown, or now James Conner who is running the football, but the regardless of who is doing the damage, the opposition would be best suited to have all of their weapons at their disposal before playing the Steelers.

Heading into Week 2, the Kansas City Chiefs might be without their All-Pro safety Eric Berry for the second straight week. Berry has been dealing with a heel injury, and as the Chiefs hit the practice field on Wednesday, his availability is anything but certain as he missed the first workout of the week.

According to Brooke Pryor, Chiefs beat writer for the Kansas City Star, Andy Reid said the star safety is improving, but doesn’t want to rush him back.

Can the Chiefs win without Berry? They proved they can on Sunday when they beat Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers 38-28 in Week 1, but they did surrender 418 passing yards, and this with some big-time drops by the Charger receiving corps.

While the Chiefs’ offense is as electric as they come, it is the defense which Steelers fans should be focusing on. Can Ben Roethlisberger get right and find ways to attack the Kansas City secondary which won’t have Marcus Peters there, as they did last year, and possibly Berry at safety?

That will be the challenge, but you get the feeling the Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown connection is just waiting to explode. Will it be this Sunday at Heinz Field? If so, it wouldn’t be the first time Roethlisberger has shredded the Chiefs’ secondary in front of the home crowd.
