A message from BTSC’s Community Manager to our loyal followers

With the season not even a quarter of the way over, it’s time to get on the same page regarding moderation, guidelines, etc.

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The horrendous start to the 2018 Pittsburgh Steelers’ season has once again brought out the worst in some of us here at Behind The Steel Curtain. I want to apologize to the faithful who come here on a daily basis to get their news and to talk Steelers Football in a reasonable and civil manner.

I’ll try to do a better job.

I want to address the members who show up out of nowhere when the Steelers are playing poorly, and then disappear just as fast when the team turns it around. Yes, I believe the team will turn it around.

You also have some members who do everything they can to bring race into the discussion, but won’t admit that they hate the fact the Steelers employ a black head coach. Yes, Coach Tomlin has flaws, as do we all, but being black isn’t one of them.

Also, I ask members please stop hijacking threads with your own agenda. We have a Fan Post section for that. Write an article if you want to see how many people follow your line of thinking. Otherwise, please keep your comments related to the article about which you’re commenting.

Last but not least. There are always complaints about moderation — the lack of, too much or biased. It’s an inexact science and, yes, the mods each have distinctive opinions and ways of handling things. Should we all get on the same page? Probably — and that falls on me to some extent. Please understand we all have jobs and lives outside of BTSC. I’ve received a few emails from some who have expressed concerns and hopefully they have a better understanding of the challenges associated with the job.

If you don’t like how something is being handled, give me a shout, but don’t do it in the threads or articles. If you fall into the category of being a “crusader for other members” STOP!! Don’t be the one who gets banned for trolling moderators. To date, I haven’t heard anything from anyone on their own behalf who might have been banned, warned or messaged.

I do appreciate those that have spoken up on behalf of BTSC or who have done some moderating of their own. ‘Thank You’ isn’t enough.

The comments section is yours, and I will do my best to answer any questions.

Thanks,
