After Game Thoughts.

After letting the 30-27 win over the Buccaneers sit in contemplation in my brain for a bit, a few things about the game stand out to me.

I think the most prominent issue the Steelers have after watching the game is their issues in the secondary. The only two players out of the entire secondary that I have confidence in is Joe Haden and Mike Hilton. I find Artie Burns to be more of a liability, than a CB that I can trust and depend on to make the proper shut down plays. Joe Haden is by far and away the best corner the Steelers have and it’s a blessing we managed to pick him up last year in free agency. While I was elated that Terrell Edmunds managed to get himself an interception, I have yet to see enough evidence from him that he can be a reliable strong safety.

Jon Bostic surprised the heck out of me. Coming out of the monday night game with a total of six tackles and one sack, Bostic is slowly starting to impress me and may end up being a smart free agent pickup.

Vance McDonald’s stiff arm against Chris Conte was one of the coldest things I have seen on live TV, if he can just stay healthy the remainder of the season the Steelers will have a very useful tool at their disposal at tight end.

Chris Boswell has been really upsetting. He is getting paid $20 million dollars to be a reliance on special teams, not a liability that misses extra points and gimme field goals. I am not sure whether it is jitters over being on a fancy five year contract or if it’s something else, but whatever it is he needs to figure it out and fix his issues.

James Conner is doing his best to prove to the Steelers and Steeler Nation that Le’veon Bell is no longer needed on this team. He comes up clutch whenever it is needed of him.

While above are some of the key points that stuck out to me during the game, here are a few more things about the game that stood out to me:

  • James Washington had some impressive catches, I look forward to seeing more of him as the season progresses.

  • I was pleasantly surprised to see myself cheering on Bud Dupree on that pick-six.

  • The roughing the passer calls are starting to get ridiculous.

  • DHB almost gave me a heart attack with his two penalties called on him in quick succession, just shows a sad lack of discipline.

  • Something needs to be done about the the excessive amount of penalties being called on the Steelers.

All in all, I leave week 3 feeling happy about adding a win to our record, but slightly discomforted and nervous about some of the team’s glaring issues. Week 4 as always will be an intense must win game against the Ravens.
